Life 2 Workshop
Where do you go to learn the art of floristry and ice sculpting? The Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. Spent five days in the Arctic Circle surrounded by fellow florists under the guidance of Per Benjamin (Sweden), Max Van de Sluis (Netherlands) and Elisabeth Kristensen (Norway). Our team created a piece around an existing ice pillar. Our concept is based on the hotel melting in the spring mimicking the flowing waters of the Toren river. The flawless ice is harvested from the river a year prior. As the water gently flows from the ceiling, the flowers of spring emerge gaining depth and speed as does a torrent river. The dynamic serpentine line of the piece creates movement enhanced when using the repetition from the crystals “diamonds” inspired from the ice chandelier. The triadic colors are bold oranges, crisp greens, dusty purples and muted whites. We gained appreciation for our icy texture when creating the chiseled crystals. The flowers have a stronger concentration at the top and are freshly preserved by the frozen waters washing over them thus dissipating into the ground below. The viewer can touch the frozen structure giving them ability to imagine dipping their hands into the Toren river on a Spring day. Conceptually, established the spring thaw. Kudos to our team pictured in front Inna Juanro, on the left Katherine Zhang AIFD, and on the right Parul Singhal Swarup EMC. Ladies we did it! Until we meet again.
